In 2021, Montreal-based electronic music collective OCTOV launched a new project called Cadavre Exquis, a game based on collective creation. The goal was to keep our community united and active during the pandemic.

Originating from French literature, the concept consists in creating a work of art from scratch, without having any contact with previous and future collaborators. Each party participates on its own scale, having to show creativity, inventiveness and a touch of audacity.

We transposed this game to techno. The work is no longer a sentence, but a track composed in three parts: rhythm, melody and FX. VJs then composed coherent works for each track: the fourth and last part of the game. We’re proud to report that Vol. II will be launching on Friday, May 20, as a 4-track EP with 16 artists involved.
